SAFE & WARM PROJECT
The Safe and Warm Project will fund wood stoves and chimney kits to those needing home heat assistance in the Bread Springs area of the Navajo Nation. In addition, it would use local mentors to work side-by-side with recipients to teach folks how to install and maintain safe stoves. This would encourage long-term relationships with stable local Diné community members who could help families adjust to rural winters. We have encountered a recent phenomena of of urban families returning to live on the rural reservation who have little or no knowledge of how to safely set up and monitor wood stoves. These families are often seeking to rebuild a life on the reservation after some hard times in surrounding cities. Our program would seek to demonstrate Christ's love by walking and working with community members on a long term basis.
